2007 Canadian Biker Build-Off Champion

“If you are going to do something, do it right the first time.” How many of you heard your parents utter these words when you were growing up? Georges Thomas of Concept and Design Cycle in Mirabel, QC must have heeded those words well.

With a mere seven years in business, Concept and Design Cycle has a growing list of their own custom motorcycle parts and accessories. Whether you are looking for something as simple as a license plate bracket, a gas tank or handlebars, or even something as complex as a full frame, CDC can help.

“Our goal is to bring innovative parts to market at a competitive price,” Georges says, “with a higher quality level than what is currently distributed by some of the big name companies.” CDC designs their parts and accessories in-house using innovative three-dimensional, high-precision software. Once the engineers have the design set, the manufacturing crew takes over and brings the design to life, ready to be installed on your bike. “We also have a full service shop, where we’ll do pretty much anything, including our own base paints now that Alain Asselin has joined the team.”

In 2004, Georges set about building a custom motorcycle, putting CDC’s design and manufacturing skills to the test. “The biggest thing was to build a bike that could be ridden a lot,” Georges says, “and this thing sees a lot of pavement.” CDC’s first motorcycle build showcases some of their most innovative parts. “I wanted to build a bike that gave you the look of a rigid, but had an actual suspension,” George explains. “If you look at the bike from the side, my swingarm design makes it look like there is no suspension.”

Another feature Georges in-corporated was to give the bike a narrow seating area while still retaining the big rear tire. “Remember this was built back in ‘04 when there really wasn’t a frame like this.” Georges continues, “when you ran a 280-300 rear tire, you needed a big ass to ride that bike. Our design eliminated that, and it is very comfortable.”

When the time to paint the bike finally arrived, airbrush artist Fitto stepped up with his unique and innovative painting style. Using different shades of the same colour, Fitto was able to give the bike’s paint a depth unlike any other. “There are varying levels of green,” Georges says, “The details are never-ending, and you find new things every time you look at it.”

The owner of the bike, Jean-Guy McNeil wanted the bike to have a theme based on the creature from the Alien movies and it is here that Fitto’s craftsmanship shines. “Fitto is a genius when it comes to airbrushing. You give him some basic ideas and Fitto takes it from there. He deals with all our customer’s bikes with the same skill and dedication.”

When all was said and done, the combination of CDC’s build skills and Fitto’s airbrush and painting skills, the Alien won the 2007 Canadian Championship at the Canadian Biker Build-Off held in Welland, ON. Not too shabby when you consider this was CDC’s very first build.
