Oddball Kustoms

ONTARIO, CANADA

Markham, Ontario is like any other sleepy bedroom community across Canada; strip plazas dot the landscape at a frequency matched only by soccer fields and dog parks. Oddball Kustoms has called this neighbourhood home since 2001, and amongst the station wagons and minivans, you may be lucky enough to see a blip of Kustom excitement on the automotive and motorcycle landscapes.

Known for building cool stuff on four wheels, Oddball Kustoms has built an impressive following, building bikes and cars that are not only cool, but set themselves apart from the status quo. Chief designer, Stony Smith and painter extraordinaire, Steve Yakymchuk have combined their skills on some projects, while Bob Persaud brings his expertise in prepping and finishing to ensure the project is meticulously looked after from the time it’s dropped off, until the customer takes delivery of their dream bike or car.

When John Santos wanted his Softail to be a tribute to Indian Larry and Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, the boys at Oddball Kustoms didn’t disappoint. A bike that continually has a crowd of people standing around; it’s one of those rare examples where every time you look, you see new details. Finished in a retina-searing orange kandy with pearl white flames and custom pinstriping. A Rat Fink logo on the rear fender keeps Big Daddy in your thoughts while a list of mods that Indian Larry would have been proud of all add to the bikes uniqueness.

Owner Louis Santos wanted something that would fly a little more under the radar than its orange counterpart. Although Santos’s bike started life as a garden variety Softail, park his bike next to a showroom model and it’s immediately apparent how different they really are. Dupont Hot Rod flat black paint with pinstripe accents and just the right amount of modifications and parts result in a low key but still extremely trick bike spectacular in its simplicity.

For those that want a custom bike but are unsure where to start, Oddball Kustoms offer a complete turnkey custom Sportster ready for the road. Dubbed the Derelict Sportster Kit, it brings a degree of attitude to an already cool bike. Don’t let the kit moniker deter you; many trick add-on parts will be available as a kit or individually (stay tuned for their upcoming catalogue). Steve and his crew used gold House of Kolor over a heavy silver flake base giving the bike a finish that seems to pop off the bodywork yet still appears to be miles deep.

The team of custom fabricators and painters at Oddball Kustoms see a bike or car as a blank canvas, with endless possibilities, if you can think it, they can build it and finish it just the way you want. When Oddball Kustoms’ American counterparts learn where they are from, the response is usually the same, “You guys are from where? Wow, you build some pretty cool stuff. Keep up the good work.” Not bad for a shop that calls a quiet, suburban bedroom community home.
