The Quinte TT

May 30 2012

Over 120 racers will line up this weekend on the historic Nelson circuit at Shannonville Motorsport Park for the Quinte TT, an annual celebration of vintage and classic motorcycle road racing.

The Quinte TT (June 1-3) is the first race in the Vintage Road Racing Association’s (VRRA) 2012 calendar and will see racers from Ontario, Quebec, the Maritimes, and USA compete using solo and sidecar motorcycles that date from the ‘50s to the early ‘90s. Kicking off the race weekend in style is a multi-class endurance race, which on Nelson’s tight track promises to be an exciting event.

The VRRA have more planned for the weekend than just racing. A race school will be held for those interested in participating in vintage racing, and for motorcyclists who want to experience riding on a race track using their own bikes, “Try the Track” provides riders with a 20 minute track session for $20 (see VRRA website for important details).

Better than any amusement park ride, race fans with big cojones can join Belleville Mayor, Neil Ellis, in laps of the racetrack in a racing sidecar for $20. The VRRA will donate the proceeds from “Try the Track” and the sidecar lapping sessions to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Complementing the weekend-long extravaganza is a vintage bike Concours and a motorcycle swap meet that is being run by the Quinte section of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group (CVMG).

“The racers, crews and spectators always enjoy the competitive yet sporting atmosphere and excellent view of the racing at Shannonville MSP,” said VRRA President Mike Vinten. “We encourage motorcycle enthusiasts to come out and enjoy this family-friendly event.”

Weekend admission to the Quinte TT is only $25 per person and includes parking and a race program.  Single day admission costs are: $5 for Friday, $10 for Saturday, and $15 for Sunday. Children under 12 are free and track-side camping is being offered. For complete details visit the VRRA website.
