The poor conditions on the Bonneville Salt Flats have already caused the cancellation of several events this year and it has now caused the cancellation of the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials (BMST). Recent rains have left a half an inch of water on the course and organizers have been unable to find another suitable location on the flats to conduct the event.
Over recent years the Salt Flats have continued to deteriorate due to mining, usage and weather, putting the locations future viability in jeopardy.
