The city of Gander, Newfoundland shares a special link to the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001. Some fifteen years later, the city paid tribute to those who were lost, and to those from the community, who in typical eastcoast fashion, assisted thousands of people stranded when their planes were grounded.

This past September 11, 2016, the city of Gander held two commemorative events in honour of the day. The first to welcome a beam from the fallen World Trade Centre and the second, hosted by The Gander and Area Chamber of Commerce to help raise awareness — and funds — for Wounded Warriors Canada, a group dedicated to honouring and supporting Canada’s ill and injured soldiers, veterans, first responders and their families.
