View Full Version : 2012 MotoGP Pool - Anyone Interested?

I'm curious if anyone in the Mojo Forum would be interested in participating in a MotoGP pool. The first race of the season starts April 5, so everything would have to be set up before then. It's short notice, but I've been busy and the start date is coming up faster than I realised.

The pool is simple. I'll set up a few categories with similarly talented riders and you have to pick one rider from each group. After each race I tally the points and post them here for everyone to follow. Your score - and position in the pool - is determined by how well the riders you picked do. You don't have to be a MotoGP guru to join in and have fun. In fact, the last time I ran this pool my wife won (she was the only one, if I remember right, to have picked Lorenzo the year he won the Championship). Best of all it's free; I'm sure that Mojo will pitch in a prize or two for the winner(s).

I'll only set it up if there are enough people interested. I'd like to see at least a dozen join, which for this young forum might end up being a stretch. I'll have to make sure my wife joins in so that we have a defending Champion.

If your'e interested, just reply to this thread that you're in.

Hell Yeah! Count me in Uwe. And yes Mayla won the last one by not choosing Rossi.

I`m in. So with Mayla and yourself that makes seven. we`ll get there.
I seem to remember that Mayla only posted once last time and that was to file her picks. I would expect more public appearances from a reigning champion.

I don't follow or know much about GP, but it sounds like fun. Much like the Nascar pool I'm in.

Um, let's see, I think we're up to 9 now (including Mrs. W. who hasn't signed up yet). A few more will get the ball rolling. Operators are standing buy. Ask for pledge special with every $500 contribution you receive a "Best of Guy Lombardo" CD.

Good heavens, I hope it isn't. The last time I followed racing at all Mike Hailwood was still racing and Dick Mann had the AMA #1 plate.

Much like Zoom I'll be banking on beginners luck, and I'll happily split the winning prize pack with him. Great Idea for a pool, on rainy riding days I'll have to do my MotoGP research, this pool will force me to become a more dedicated motorcycle fan! Count me in.

Your research will have to be done before you make your picks, which will hopefully be later this week. Once you have your riders selected, all you can do is sit back and either bask in the glory or drown in the gory.

Look at that Ewe,

Ya see? I never know if someone is pulling my leg when they do that or if it was just a mistake. My lawyer thought it was great fun and one day presented me with a big wall plaque that had a number of sheep standing in front of a house. It read: "Ewe're all Welcome." He still laughs about it.

Well it looks like we've reached a decent minimum. I've started setting up the spreadsheet to track the results and will post the list everyone will pick from in a couple of days. Keep an eye on this thread everyone. Everyone has to get their picks in before the first race of the season.

that's probably a lawyer who needs shooting.

Joke:

A hunter out in wild country gets overtaken by a furious thunder & lightning storm.
He discovers a cave and takes cover.
Inside the cave are already a rattlesnake, a grizzly bear and a lawyer.
Hunter checks rifle and finds only two rounds of ammunition left.

What to do???

He shoots the lawyer twice.

There's a guy in Peterboro', Ontario with the same name you have, Uwe. I had some drinks with him back a few years ago. The uwe I knew was Icelandic and said that there had been a member of every generation of his family who had the name, all the way back to Lief the Lucky.

Welcome to the Mojo Forum Hauptman. The selection list has already been posted, so you'd better do your homework. We have a sharp crew of MotoGP experts here and I think the competition will be fierce this year - in the forum Pool at least.

Fierce but in a friendly sort of way. More throttle than blocking as it were.

Yipes! The picks are already flooding into my PM inbox. What are you guys doing, throwing darts at the list of names? :p

Just so that everyone is aware, I won't be looking at your selections until the deadline, so if there's anything that needs to be clarified, I'll contact you after that date. I have to make my own picks yet and it wouldn't be fair (not that it would make any difference) if I'd already seen who everyone else was picking.

Just take the opposite of me and you should do just fine!

By the way, I sent a second PM which changed my Constructors picks because I did not realize the first three (with *) were in one group and the last three were the second group. Was this correct?

Yes sir. I probably should have been more clear with that.

Make that a second PM from me too, in regards to the constructors group.
As for darts, I am not the greatest shot. Let's hope for an exception in this case!

I'll update the selection post to make it more clear. With respect to luck, believe me - everyone will need a certain measure of it regardless of their MotoGP knowledge.

No, it's all very scientific. I asked my dog. I pointed to a name on the list and counted how many times she wagged her tail at each name.
