During the past year it's become obvious that late '70s Honda GL1000s have for some some inexplicable reason become a popular bike with customisers. I just stumbled across this build today and have mixed feelings about it. It is both spectacular and hideous at the same time. With different paint and metal finishes, I think it would be a hands-down winner. Although I'm not keen on the western motif on the customized instrument dials, they are a very cool modification.

I have been thinking of an original GL to build into a sidecar machine. The standard bike with a sidecar from roughly the same era with an aftermarket leading link front end and car tires would work pretty well I think. The reason for such a machine would be to take my dog with me when I go away for a weekend or some such.

My thinking for that particular choice of machine is that they have large amounts of low end power and Honda motors are reliable.

Interesting bike. Makes you look. i however would prefer a pristine example of a 75 if I were to have a GL. I might even feel like going to a Goldwing gathering. Just to see how many Wing riders actually knew what it was.
