    Global Warming?

Although it feels fantastic, there is something eerily wrong with the extremely warm conditions that have prevailed in southern Ontario since the beginning of winter. Is a sign of global warming or just a freak winter? One thing is certain: it's turning out that there really wasn't a need to park a motorcycle for the winter this year - so far.

What's the winter been like in your region of Canada so far? Anyone of the coasts notice the water levels rising? Is the end near?

Calgary area is extremely dry, yesterday the high was 12*! It does feel odd, you reach for your parka and then reconsider, as that would be over-dressed(for January?! Who would've thought that!) Apprehension has settled in, in regards to the spring and summer....this dry period has happened before, only to get one of the wettest springs and coolest summers I can remember for our area. The mountains at least still have snow, and It is nice to drive there on bare roads, it just feels wrong.

Just goes to show you that despite all our advancements in weather forecasting, nature still has us beat.

Has anyone gotten their bike out of storage? I haven't, if I take it out I want spring in the air (for real) and there still is a lot of sand and crap on the roads anyway. Surely winter isn't done with us yet, for me it's not worth it.

This miight turn out to be

the Winter Which Never Happened. I am a couple of hundred clicks north of where Green is posting. No snow on the ground and none forecast, but there's a nasty, pushy wind most days. Further south of Calgary tractor-trailer outfits have been blown sideways off the road.

Alberta is one of those regions - there are a few - where it is claimed that, "If you don't like the weather right now, wait fifteen minutes". But this year it has been almost monotonously predictable.

An alleged few mad dogs and Harley riders were reported out and visible on New Year's Day.

Around these parts you'll often hear sport bike riders whinge about Harleys and cruisers in general. They also mock by claiming that hogs are only ever being hauled between coffee shops and their home garages. The irony is that it's actually the sport bikes which are the first to disappear during inclement weather. Cruisers and the mad dogs are typically the last bikes on the road in the weeks just before the snow begins to fly. At the International Supershow this past weekend I noted the bikes that were being ridden in early January. If it wasn't a cruiser, it was a dual-sport of some kind; there wasn't one sport bike in the lot, pun intended.

    Long live the mad dogs.

Although it certainly has been nice in my neck of the woods, I consider it a tease since it is nice enough to ride, but there is NO WAY I am letting my bike get eroded by the salt and that other spray crap they are putting down on the roads. Just bring on spring and a couple of good downpours and I'll see you on the roads!!!

I've been in Winnipeg for almost 13 years now, and this is the warmest (and strangest) winter I've experienced so far. I'll take it, though!

I don't think the end is near, at least in our time Uwe, for me I'll just take advantage of the extended riding season. I live near a place called Point Pelee which is the southern most part of Canada right on lake Erie, I will keep an eye on the water levels and let u know, if u don't hear from me again, head for the high ground. lol

That's an interesting factoid. Next I suppose you'll tell us that you own a vineyard there and spend your non-riding time with the glass half full and your feet up admiring the view. I think I'll have to do another Lake Erie run this year. It's been a few years since I rode along its north shore; just the ketchup smell in Leamington alone is worth the trip.

Oh, and by the way, isn't Pelee Island the southern most part of Canada?
