I'm a firm believer in the Battery Tender, adding Stabil to a full tank of gas, and most importantly, changing the oil prior to any winter storage. I was told a long time ago that dirty oil is very toxic and hard on engine innards, especially bearings.
I'm not too lazy to work, just too lazy to look for a job.

Ya, maybe I should have said stabilizer, full tank of fuel and battery charged once a month> I do take it into the basement cuz it's more convenient. Also take seat indoors, had a mouse eat one once. I also stuff steel wool in exhaust to keep the mice from taking seat stuffing into muffler for nest. Yes that happened too. Nothing like blasting mouse turds and seat stuffing when you start up the bike.

Ditto for me, my bike still awaits the real spring in its cosy corner in the garage. That being said, 6 bikes were spotted in Calgary the other day, as the winter-less winter continues. Roads around here are still covered in gravel and salt. So as far as spring goes, I'll wait for the real thing, and continue to enjoy wearing runners to work.

Just out of curiosity - does that mean your ride is blessed with a heated hibernation location? Fuel stabilizer seems to be overkill when winterizing but I still feel the need to take a couple precautions before parking it. I used to ride my little XR 80 mid-winter in Muskoka just to get out on two wheels, but I can just imagine the damaged I probably caused it.

I live about 20 km from the nearest gas station and I add the Stabil at the pump before the final filling. Then the ride home distributes it throughout the fuel system. Apparently if untreated gasoline is left in fuel lines for any length of time some sort of chemical reaction happens that destroys the rubber or plastic the lines are made from.

Fresh oil is also part of the mix. I usually change it again fairly quickly in the spring although this may not be necessary with the new synthetic oils. Still, oil is relatively cheap, an extra two or three changes a year won't break the bank.

Since I am not blessed with heated storage for my machine I take the battery out, it is sitting in my living room with a battery tender on it as we speak. Fortunately my bike is air cooled so I don't have to drain any coolant out.
The older I get, the faster I was.

    Not in Orangeville

Global Warming my ass! Check out Orangeville today. We got about 15cm and it is still snowing. It's a "no bus day" in this area and it will likely take a week for it all to melt.

What beautiful snowy shots! We had the opposite weather pattern here in Alberta, with yesterday reaching a high of 29*!
Three guesses on my choosen activity for the afternoon...

I had always heard it would gum up the jets in your carb, but if it hurts the rubber as well all the more reason to use it.

A few weeks ago the weather patterns were reversed and we were experiencing the warm weather, while you guys out west got the snow. Enjoy your ride this afternoon.

    Wow Malks!

I'm 45 minutes south of you and no hint what-so-ever of the white stuff. I'm starting my riding season at the end of next week, but will be sure to avoid riding north for a while.
