What I learned on the first ride of the season

    Hello Mojo,

Finally made it out yesterday Mar 20 for my 2012 inaugural ride. What I learned: When having lunch before the ride, do not eat a peanut buter and onion sandwich (don't knock it till you've tried it). Tasted great as ususal, but the accompanying laser-breath, trapped in a full face helmet, was brutal. Had to pop the visor. Quickly.

    Cheers,
    Big Orange Beast

I'll suspend my disbelief that the combination of peanut butter and onions makes a good sandwich. However, I do wonder how someone gets to that point. Where you making a PJ sandwich one day and realised that you were out of jam, and while still in the fridge spotted an onion and thought that it would make a good substitute? Weird. Truly weird. I'm glad I wasn't riding behind you.

Try peanut butter and pickles or pb and cheese or pb and olives. Gourmet? definitely not, but suits my warped senses of taste. Adventurous? try 'em all together.

I dunno about peanut butter and onions but I do like a nice thick, (1/4 inch at least) slice of some sweet onion, either a walla walla sweet onion or a vidalia onion with blue cheese infused mayo. I don't bother with butter and the mayo goes on both slices of bread. It is especially good on home made rye bread. I have been told never to take one to work again.

Now you got me thinking. If you cut up the onion fairly small and caramelized it, then deglazed with a nice balsamic vinegar and reduced it by half. Put peanut butter on both bread slices and spread on the onion balsamic mixture....?

Now that sounds more like it. I can imagine that after taking the edge of the onion and adding some flavor it might work well with peanut butter, but as the Big Orange Beast recommended it - nope, I don't think I have the guts to try it. A spanish onion sliced nice and thick with any old cheese is delicious.

Relax, Possums wouldn't survive the winters in the Cariboo.
