This has the real makings of a disaster. I'm still digging into the details, but I'm not sure that it was a wise decision.

Well I guess its not like the Germans and italians have been allies before. Mind you that really wasnt a smashing success either. I think the financial stability VW brings may be good, if they can allow Ducati to run with autonomy. For myself out of pure need of a job if they open up Ducati sales in every VW dealer i might get a job there as there is one close by.

That might take a while, but as you already know, it's also a highly unlikely scenario.

One thing is for sure: Audi (VW) beat BMW to owning a MotoGP prototype machine.

Looking at the history of Ducati (the marque) ownership, at this point in time Im glad it is not owned by the Italian Govt.

"Analysts have questioned the Ducati purchase, saying the move bears no economic or industrial logic and solely reflects VW Chairman Ferdinand Piech's passion for the Italian company's expertise on design and light engines.

"Ducati also brings in liabilities of well below 200 million euros, one official told Reuters.

"I can't think of a concrete reason for Audi to warrant a business case for buying Ducati," said Stefan Bratzel, director of the Center of Automotive at the University of Applied Sciences in Bergisch-Gladbach.

"Ducati doesn't enhance Audi's business model in any way, it's just a trophy in the wall cabinet," he added.

    as per Reuters report.
