    Local Roads

How about a thread showing our bikes out by the side of the road? I didn't want to clutter up the 'What's your ride' thread, besides... as the riding season in 2012 is upon us, hopefully we'll fill up this thread with lots of "I was here" shots.

A good friend has an Aprillia Tuono, so a pair of Italian twins went for a short romp today. It was crowded with holiday traffic and there were few spots to do anything other than cruise along and enjoy the day. This spot is 30 minutes outside Calgary, just after Elbow Falls. The road turns into gravel about 5 km past this point so the traffic is quite a bit lighter than the road leading up to here.

Those are corners I see! I live north-east of Calgary and we don't have many of those! Being familiar with the Calgary area, I have no idea where you are there, but would like to know how to get there. From where did you exit the city to get to this road?

This is a nice bit of road. It's just south of Bragg Creek. Coming from the north, head south out of Cochrane on the 22. Go over the Trans Canada, through the round-about, past the town of Bragg Creek and about 5 km south of Bragg Creek there's a major intersection. The intersection lets you follow the 22 south or change onto the 66 west.. take the 66 west. Slightly past Elbow Falls is the best part of the road including this hill. The road turns to gravel, so for street bikes it's an in and out thing... but that's ok as you can sweep the road in and out and then turn around and rail it.. beware of the cattle and horses that are free ranging, they're used to traffic for the most part and stay off the road. It's not as if it's a secret road or anything... there was lots of bicycle and RV traffic on it today... like most roads it's best hit it on a mid-week day.

Actually there is a shot very like that on Highway 5 south of Valemount looking south. It is almost the same right down to the pull out.

I do like that part of southern Alberta into the foothills area. A lot of the roads weren't paved the last time I was through but the roads were smooth and the engineering top notch. Even a road bike could make time on them.

    Highway 99, BC, July 2009.jpg

Here is a shot of my 2009 Lightning beside Highway 99 between Pemberton and Lillooet. Not such a good shot of the road but it's the only local shot I have.

    hmmm

Green forested back ground, mountains, patched pavement, narrow road, all black Buell parked by the side of the road... I know that part of B.C.

Malks.. Got anything more recent than a couple of years ago? A couple years old is nice. but...(tossing gauntlet) How about something from this year?

Nothing from this year...yet. How about last June near a covered bridge in Vermont?

I just found an older shot of my 2009 lightning the day I picked it up. It was mid April on the road, (Highway 24), between Little Fort on Highway 5 and 100 Mile House on Highway 97. The bike is in the pull out at Sheridan Lake and yes, the lake is still frozen.

I haven't had much time to take pictures yet this year. I'm working on it.

well... a year old isn't so bad.. the Vermont covered bridge was a good toss in to make sure we coundn't compete (similar to Black Lightning and my mountain road shots)

I was thinking this would be a good spot to toss occasional shots as the summer progresses and not have to plug the readers rides thread with shots of us on the road.
