Another Vancouver Island eatery I forgot in the last post on the subject is the Driftwood Restaurant at Oyster Bay between Courtenay and Campbell River. It is on the old Island Highway across the road from the rest stop at Oyster Bay. Apparently it has a really good chinese smorg. I usually just order off the menu because of the time of day I am there.
The older I get, the faster I was.

Sorry for only jumping on this thread now, for anyone near Mojo's offices in Barrie you MUST try Spaghetti Western which is located on Collier street in Barrie ON. The Greek-Australian cook is the typical diner chef as he is funny, friendly, has loads of stories to share and produces some amazing dishes. The restaurant is so tiny that his fridge doubles as a stand for his microwave, which doubles as a stand for his radio which plays only local stuff. The prices of everything are very affordable and the portions are absolutely massive. He serves various pasta dishes, pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, curly fries salmon sandwich, deep-fried cheesecake and so much more!

I highly recommend it as a stopping destination on a bike trip anywhere near Barrie.

Not gourmet, but if you're looking for a down home dining experience in St Marys (Ontario) try the Sunset Diner. Authentic '50s era styling, the real thing. We usually start a good long day's ride there, breakfast is primo. I recommend the Mex omelet.

I will have to try that sometime, we are only a half hour ride from St. Mary's. One place we often enjoy is the North Star at the intersection of #7 and #4 just south of Lucan the corner is called Elginfield. It is your typical greasy spoon menu but the place is clean and the food quality is top notch.

Breakfast with a few thick hunks of bacon or ham, at least 3 runny eggs, 2 slices of buttered bread and a pile of cubed or shredded homefries served at 1pm is the best remedy to cue the previous-night's miscalculation of one's alcohol tolerance. Not to mention that for a long day of riding, and long distances covered between stops, I find grease helps keep you full and replenishes the energy needed.

    Ouch!

At a crossroads near Calabogie racetrack there is a small rural cafe/restaurant and I stopped in there one day for a coffee after the races only to leave with a new opinion of myself. I had been to the track all day but I had showered at my motel in the morning so when I ordered the coffee I felt that I was still in a reasonable state of repair but then perhaps not.
The coffee arrived, money changed hands and when I asked for sugar the lady pointed to a bowl at the side of the counter. I hadn`t noticed it sitting there. "Oh, brown" says me. "No, it`s unrefined" replied the lady, "rather like yourself"

    That is hilarious!

I've found that hard working servers who have been on their feet for hours, dealing with a wide spectrum of customers, have the sharpest wit and best responses.

If you visit A Vicious Cycle in New Dundee, ON, the small grill joint next door is pretty good. They do Greek and Cannuck grilled food. A Vicious Cycle also get the nod from me, good people who look after you well.

I had to pick up some stuff in Mississauga on Friday and thought I would stop in for breakfast there, New Dundee is on the way to the 401 for me, but they don't open till 11:00 during the week. Ended up going to the Ice House in Campbellville which is a popular spot for bikes in the summer because of the roads that run up and down the escarpment. The food was o.k. the coffee maybe a little weaker than I like.
