    Invisible helmet

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ign-award.html

This is meant for the folks on bicycles, I wonder if they will try to develop one for motorcycle riders? I also wonder how reliably it deploys and if it deploys does it do so in time to save your noggin or could it possibly deploy with such force that the rider gets a concussion from the helmet instead of the pavement?

I'd rather just wear my full face helmet. It keeps the stones and bugs from hitting me in the head.
Also at 100+ kph I wonder how the air will conpensate for the forward momentum and force.

Good points. Of course the bag helmet would have to be extremely resistant to punctures too. However, at the end of the day, you still have to wear a special collar or jacket and risk that it will actually deploy (imagine having a defective one). With a good old 'visible' helmet you at least know it'll be there.

A large number of years ago I decided that falling off hurts so I resolved to quit doing it. Somewhat akin to a carpenter deciding to quit hitting his thumb with his hammer. That said I still wear a full coverage modular helmet. I tell myself it is to avoid the bugs, rain and small rocks thrown up by cages. In reality there are some things that, for whatever reason are impossible to avoid and so an effective helmet is essential. Key word, "effective".

was reading the safety sphere item and then this. imagine it deploying when it wasn't supposed to? I dunno, maybe a defective trigger mechanism of some kind for example. You're riding along minding your own business and suddenly your air helmet or body suit inflates? that would be a really ugly situation. I seem to recall a rider in a road race (motogp or maybe world superbike) had his collar inflate on its own, it might have been during a practice session. It was just an inconvenience for that guy and he rode back into the pits, but anything bigger would be a big problem.
