Suzuki’s announced this week at the EICMA Motorcycle Show the all-new generation of the V-Strom with the 1050 series for 2020. Evoking the spirit and stylings of the iconic DR-Big.

We had heard whispers from the corners about the possibility of seeing a new DR-Big sometime for 2020, Suzuki did not disappoint with the release of the V-Strom 1050. Suzuki has not yet released the price or the date that bikes are set to arrive in Dealers however, we expect to learn more soon about the details of the new V-Strom.

With the new generation of the V-Strom models include the V-Strom 1050, V-Strom 1050XT, and V-Strom 1050XT Adventure. Inspired by the legendary DR-Z800 Dakar Rally bike that proved Suzuki could take on the most rigorous terrain in off-road riding and the DR800S, also known as the DR-Big, powerful and nimble.

Suzuki was not inspired by just the handling of the DR-Z800 but also by the bright colour scheme associated with the bikes. The V-Strom 1050XT model comes in two colour options; the Championship Yellow colour that resembles the legendary DR-Z rally bike and orange and white combination pays respectful homage to the DR-Big. The V-Strom 1050 is more subtle with a black and grey colour scheme, while the 1050XT Adventure is a Glass Sparkle Black.

The updated 1037cc V-twin engine has more horsepower than ever before, retaining its strong pull in the lower RPM range with good fuel economy while complying with worldwide emissions standards. Along with the updated engine, Suzuki has updated the throttle assemblies, refined traction control with four sensitivity modes, and a new three-mode Drive Mode Selector. For comfort and ergonomics, they’ve added a vibration-damping tapered aluminum handlebar and a mounting bar above the instrument cluster to add GPS and any other electronic mounts.

2020 V-Strom 1050XT and V-Strom 1050XT Adventure

In addition to the upgrades found on the V-Strom 1050, the V-Strom 1050XT and the V-Strom 1050XT Adventure models include the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). These new V-Strom’s now lead the Adventure category in technology as this advanced suite of features is interconnected to a new ECM via a Controller Area Network (CAN) wire harness that quickly transmits information from a new six-direction, three-axis IMU.

Right now you might be scratching your head thinking a lot of three-letter terms in the above paragraph that concluded in some confusion… we agree. The S.I.R.S. includes Cruise Control, updated Motion Track Antilock & Combined Brake System now includes a Hill Hold Control system to aid the rider when stopped uphill while the Slope Dependent Control System helps manage braking force to avoid rear wheel lift when riding downhill. The Motion Track Brake System also includes a Load Dependent Control System that monitors and retains braking force information to optimize braking force when riding with a passenger or heavy cargo. Each element of S.I.R.S. provides V-Strom 1050XT riders stress-free use and convenience during long-distance adventures, commuting, or pleasure riding. The V-Strom 1050XT also comes with a new adjustable windscreen, redesigned handguards and mirrors, a new height-adjustable two-piece seat, plus a rugged accessory bar and centre-stand.
